Jean Touret was a French sculptor and designer born in 1916 in Lassay-les-Châteaux, a small town west of Paris, France, and died in 2004. Touret began his career working for an insurance company, but quickly developed a passion for art. After work, he took drawing classes in the evenings to hone his skills. After the war, he returned to France, where he opened his studio, the Atelier de Marolles. Over the years, he designed and produced a number of pieces, including tables, lamps, and sideboards. Touret also worked in metal, designing screens in zinc and copper. He is also known for designing the monumental bronze altar of Notre-Dame, which was installed in 1981.
