Pair of black cast iron candlesticks with gold plated brass discs designed and produced by Jens Quistgaard, Denmark, circa 1950. Suitable for 0,45" diameter candles.
Jens Quistgaard (1919–2008) was a Danish designer best known for his contributions to Scandinavian modernism in the 1950s and 1960s. He began his career in his father's sculpture studio before becoming an apprentice to Georg Jensen and then head designer of the US-based brand Dansk Designs, where he worked for several decades. Over the course of his career, Quistgaard won several prestigious design awards, including the Lunning Prize, as well as gold and silver medals at the Milan Triennale in 1954.
