Oval extending table, Royale model, emblematic piece from Maison Jansen France, 1960.
Table with black lacquered top and extension.
Double-collared legs and brass cuffs. Stamped on the brass casters: "Shepherd Belgium GB USA Swiss France 970997 patents". Gilt bronze wedge.
Designed and manufactured for French actress Jacqueline Delubac (1907-1997), who disliked dining tables. This table's unique feature is that it folds and has an extension leaf that can be inserted into the center to make it larger. About a hundred were manufactured with several different tops.
A table of the same model as the one we are presenting is illustrated in the Parisian dining room of Suzy and Pierre Delbée, director of Maison Jansen, in J. Archer-Abbott “Jansen”, Arcanthus Press, New York, 2006, pp. 182-183.
The table has been professionally refinished. The top is in perfect condition. One spacer shows signs of wear due to rubbing against the legs. The table is 65 years old.
Bronze, brass, steel, wood, lacquer, patinated bronze base
Closed table 140 cm with 200 cm extension
Measurements H 74 cm W 200 cm D 100 cm
