Louis Abel-Truchet, born December 29, 1857 in Versailles and died September 9, 1918 in Auxerre, is a French painter and poster artist.

A pupil of Benjamin Constant and Jules Lefebvre at the Académie Julian in Paris, Louis Abel-Truchet produced numerous canvases of Parisian night life at the turn of the xixth and XNUMXth centuries, as well as landscapes and genre scenes. His paintings are treated in a post-impressionist style.

In 1907, he founded the Société des humoristes with Louis Vallet.

Landscape painter and genre scenes, he painted and engraved a lot of boards on Montmartre, participated in the “Vachalcades” of the Chat Noir cabaret and was the author of several floats.

Abel-Truchet was named Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1911.

During the First World War, he volunteered as a territorial lieutenant in the 1st engineer regiment in 1914. The army used his skills as a painter by appointing him to the post of deputy to Guirand de Scevola, head of the section of camouflage. Abel-Truchet directed the central workshop of this training in Paris. During the war, he published caricatures in the press, notably Le Petit Journal.

He died of a war wound shortly before the end of hostilities.

After her death, her widow, Julia Abel-Truchet, took over the brushes from her husband, whom she succeeded in the studio, and enjoyed success with her portraits and views of the flowering garden.
