“Bouquet of flowers on an entablature” Adolphe Jacques Gabriel MAGAUD (1813-1883)
Oil on canvas Signed lower center
85 x 65 cm without frame
The painting is adorned with a magnificent gold leaf frame.
Adolphe MAGAUD was a student of Simon Saint-Jean, a painter from the Lyon school who won several medals and was present at the 1851 World's Fair. Like his master, Adolphe Magaud exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1840 to 1868, as well as at the Société des Amis des Arts in Lyon from 1839 to 1868.
The painter offers us a rich variety of flowers rendered with precision; the composition is harmonious, delicate, and luminous. The depiction of butterflies reminds us of the ephemeral beauty of nature.
