Additional information:
Alfons Maria Mucha, also known as Alphonse Mucha (July 24, 1860 – July 14, 1939), was a Czech poster artist, illustrator, graphic designer, painter, interior designer, and decorator, a leading figure in the Art Nouveau style. He produced numerous paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs.
Mucha moved to Paris in 1887 and continued his studies at the Académie Julian and the Académie Colarossi. In 1894, Mucha designed a poster for Sarah Bernhardt that attracted considerable attention. Bernhardt was so pleased with the success of this first poster that she began a six-year contract with Mucha.
Mucha produced a multitude of paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as jewelry designs with René Lalique, carpets, wallpaper, and theater sets in what was initially called the Mucha style, but became known as Art Nouveau.
Mucha's style was exhibited internationally at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, about which Mucha said, "I think [the Exposition Universelle] helped bring aesthetic values into the arts and crafts."
His works are cherished by museums and collectors worldwide.
The "JOB" poster is one of Alphonse Mucha's most famous creations, created in 1896 to promote JOB cigarettes.
It features an elegant woman wrapped in a dress in white and gold tones. The characteristic floral motifs of Art Nouveau are present, with curved, organic lines. The typography is skillfully integrated, forming a circle around the woman's head with the word "JOB."
This poster was a great commercial success and cemented Mucha's reputation. Today, it is considered an iconic work by the artist and is exhibited in museums around the world.
