Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) was a French painter renowned for his distinctive and colourful style. He was also a draftsman, printmaker, book illustrator, ceramicist, designer of fabrics, tapestries and furniture, and designer of interiors, public spaces and theatres.

Born in Le Havre, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts before moving to Paris. Active in movements such as Fauvism and Cubism, Dufy was known for his luminous paintings depicting modern life, parties and maritime scenes.

1964 poster to promote tourism in Paris and in particular the Museum of Modern Art which houses a large quantity of works by Raoul Dufy, among others.

The poster depicts a detail from a painting by Dufy, "The Paddock at Deauville" (1930), which is on display not at the Museum of Modern Art but at the Centre Pompidou.
