Magnificent Norman wedding wardrobe from Fécamp (Upper Normandy), late 18th century Transition period Louis XV, Louis XVI endowed with rich carvings and moldings.
It was the father of the groom who ordered this wedding cabinet. Indeed this wardrobe served as a dowry offered to the newlyweds.
The importance and prominence of the carvings was proof of the social significance of the donor.
Here, the sculptures are fine and dense. They describe various bouquets, Rocaille decorations, vase with handle, fruits, amorous doves at the top and farm tools on the medallion of the doors.
Note that the two medallions represent musical instruments including a lute, a harp and a score. Moreover, they form a perfect symmetry
Flowery decorations also decorate the outline of these medallions.
In addition, the bouquet on the ledge, decorated with two beak-to-beak birds, is superb.
The molded doors blend beautifully with the finesse of the cabinet work cut down on the sculptures.
Indeed, this cabinet is full of movement, especially its cornice which is exceptional.
The cupboard rests on 4 arched legs dressed in acanthus leaves, typical of Louis XV furniture, while the ornaments and other ribboned decorations are typically Louis XV. XVI.
Painted white, there is also a recoating brush job done.
The shades of gold and silver therefore perfectly highlight the sculptures of the cabinet. In addition, this same rechampi gives even more relief to the sculptures and moldings of this cabinet.
Finally, the interior has been left in its raw oak color.
Lock mounted upside down.
