Eugène Berthelon is a French painter born in 1829 in Paris. He learned painting according to the teachings of Eugène Lavieille and Etienne-Prosper Berne-Bellecour.
He is passionate about the Breton seaside and the forest landscapes, which he immortalizes with a precise and agile line. Berthelon uses soft colors such as gray or pink, under a clear sky, lightly lit by the sun or the moon.
He was 35 years old when he exhibited for the first time in 1864. These exhibitions brought him success and from 1881 to 1914 he presented his works at the Salon des artistes français. He will also be a silver medalist at the Universal Exhibition of 1889.
He died in 1916 in Paris, where he spent the last years of his life. Eugène Berthelon will have painted an important work, crippled with tender colors and bewitching landscapes.
