Venini photo frame in yellow Murano glass with filigree

Filigree is a traditional technique, which began in the 16th century. This technique requires highly skilled makers. They use long rods of glass that they layer, intertwine, and fuse together. Each rod is wrapped around a glass cylinder and blown into shape. At the end of this operation, the master glassmaker must keep each line of color separate, with the same thickness and curvature around the glass, as quickly as possible before the temperature drops. The result of this technique is almost hypnotic as it produces a perfect net effect. It is signed on the back brass mount.
