Cartel and its Regency period lamp base in tortoiseshell and brass marquetry. The cartel is surmounted by a helmeted figure holding a bird. Below the dial is a depiction of the heron – symbol of perpetual rebirth and a female figure holding an oil lamp and a book with the inscription Ultima latet – The last (hour) is hidden from you. Ornamentation of chiselled and gilded bronze. The dial indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals in blue and white enamel cartouches on a background decorated with stylized flowers and leaves. The mechanism plate signed “Bonneual à Paris”. Rich foliage ornamentation.
