Dominique Louis Papety (1815 – 1849): Pair of portraits representing a Neapolitan couple

XIXth century.
Signed lower left "Dom.Papety" on the portrait of the Neapolitan.
Student of L. Cogniet; he won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1836. He appeared at the Paris Salon from 1843 to 1847. He visited Greece, Syria, the
Palestine. Ingres held his talent in great esteem and influenced him greatly. Through several of his paintings, he also shows his passion
for Raphael.

London (Wallace collection): Italian Contadine.
Munich (Gal. Lotze): Monk Painters of Mount Athos.
Nantes: Serenade to the Madonna.
Versailles: Joan of Arc presented to Charles VII, Guillaume de Clermont defends Ptolémaïs.

Several works by this painter are kept at the Musée d'Orsay.

Dimensions with the frame: 64 x 55 cm. Very beautiful period wooden and gilded stucco frames with their period gilding as well as their original “Dom. Papety.”
