Pair of "Transat" armchairs, original model created circa 1926, in black lacquered wood with reclining backrest and detached armrests forming a front base with square-section legs ending in small chromed metal feet. Rear base with double legs connected by a stretcher. Backrest and seat upholstered in quilted grey leather.
Publisher's stamps on the trim.

Black lacquered beech frame, suspended seat and back cushions and reclining headrest upholstered in grey-beige leather, chromed metal fittings and feet. H. 77 – W. 58 – D. 108 cm H. 30 1/4 – W. 22 7/8 – D. 42 1/2 in.
Between 1926 and 1928, Eileen Gray collaborated with Jean Badovici on the creation of an architectural masterpiece: Villa E-1027, in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. For this project, she designed all the furniture, including the iconic Transat chair, created around 1927. Its name refers to the abbreviation of "transatlantique," evoking the deck chairs on ocean liners.
