ESCHWEGE Pair of fighting cocks, solid silver circa 1950
Each rooster, with its finely chiseled plumage, is depicted in full attack with its wings spread, its body twisting. This pair of roosters is distinguished by the tension of the movement and the precision of the modeling. The surfaces alternate between polished and chiseled to better highlight the light on the plumage.
The balance between vigor and elegance perfectly embodies the post-war animal style, between decorative tradition and formal modernity.
A work of great virtuosity, typical of the Maison Eschwege, a Parisian goldsmith renowned in the post-war period for its animal sculptures with expressive naturalism. These sculptures were intended for table decoration at grand hunting dinners.
