Jacques-François Blondel (1705 -1774) had a decisive role in the development of the Louis XV style. Against the use of rocaille decoration, he professed ornamental simplicity, perfection of proportions in compliance with the rules decreed by the great masters of XVIIth century: François Mansart, Claude Perrault and Jules Hardouin-Mansart. He was a teacher of Étienne-Louis Boullée, Claude Nicolas Ledoux and Alexandre Théodore Brongniart.
