Bronze group representing two resting hunting dogs, of the “Saintongeoise” breed, by the sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879).
The edition of this group, produced around 1857, achieved immediate and lasting success, particularly among enthusiasts of hunting and venery subjects.
In the work of Mêne, the dog is the animal loved and pampered, studied and represented more than all the others.
If hunting is the axis of his work, the dog is its constitutive element par excellence.
In animal sculpture, PJMêne is the artist who has left us the most models of canines, all perfectly treated in a realistic manner, and represented with an artistic truth and anatomical rigor that will not weaken over the years.
The sculptor's signature "PJMÊNE" is in relief on the richly chiseled and decorated naturalistic terrace with plants.
Old edition sculpture, second part of the period XIXth century.
Very good state of preservation and patina.

Dimensions: 25.5 cm x 44 cm x 20 cm
