Joseph Georges Jeannin, born in Paris on August 24, 1841 and died on December 10, 1925 in the same city (XVIIth arrondissement), was a French still life painter specializing in floral arrangements. The son of a building inspector, he was a student of Victor Vincelet. He made his debut at the Salon of 1868 and exhibited there regularly. He received an honorable mention in 1876, a 3rd class medal in 1878 and a 2nd class medal in 1888. He was also awarded a bronze medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition, then another at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, both in Paris. The Legion of Honor was awarded to him in 1903. A recognized specialist in the "Art of the Flower", this master of still lifes was particularly renowned for his talent in representing roses. He also jointly created with Achille Cesbron the decoration of the Salon du Passage of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris. Admitted to the Society of French Artists in 1878, a member of the National Horticultural Society of France, he chaired its Fine Arts Section from its creation in 1898 until his death. He was also a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of the Flower.
