Dressed in a black velvet doublet with a white collar, this young Prince wears embroidered bloomers over silk stockings. His sword is gripped in his left hand, and a long red velvet cloak covers his arm.
A French painter, he was a student of Léon Cogniet. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1853 with a large portrait, but later devoted himself to history and genre painting.
