Romeo REGA

Table lamp.

Chrome-plated metal and brass.

76x23x23 cm.

1970s

Signed in incursion.
Born in 1904, Italian designer Romeo Rega was one of many designers in the 1970s to combine modernism and glamour in their furniture designs. Rega epitomized this style, and his brand is thought to have been launched on December 31, 1969. He produced lighting, chairs, tables, and display cases, identified by the double “R” logo until 1981, when he ceased production. Although little is known about his personal and professional life, Rega’s legacy is enduring, particularly due to the appearance of his designs at vintage auctions and his popularity among collectors.
Rega's furniture is characterized by geometric and reduced forms. His designs are almost always gilded, chromed or plated in brass, adding the elegance and charm for which Rega is known to the clean-lined modernist pieces. Although there is little verifiable information, some sources claim that Rega worked with the famous designers Willy Rizzo and the prolific Gabriella Crespi, due to the similar aesthetics of the three designers. With many pieces dedicated to entertaining, such as coffee tables with glass cases and liquor cabinets, side tables, shelves and decorative desk lamps, Rega's work is popular with fans of Hollywood Regency and 1970s design.
