Maison BOUDET – Exceptional Pair of Silver-Gilt Salt Cellars XIXe
Exceptional pair of silver-gilt salt cellars represented by a triton blowing into a conch, in the middle of two large shells placed on an oval base with foliage contours.
Here the marine theme is inspired by the "Neptune" basin of Versailles and a centerpiece made by Emile Froment Meurice for the Duke Medina Celi, today preserved in the Royal Palace of Madrid. This work can be attributed to the Boudet house, 43 boulevard des Capucines in Paris. Example this Important pair of coolers and their adherent displays in silver and silver gilt. Period end of the XIXth century executed by the BOUDET house. (attached photo)

Victor Boudet is a goldsmith chaser who inscribed his hallmark in 1894. His workshop located at 43 Boulevard des Capucines was still in operation in 1902 before his move. These magnificent salt cellars do not seem to have a goldsmith's hallmark. It is therefore likely that Boudet chased this piece with great virtuosity but it is impossible to be sure that he was the goldsmith.
