Maison Raak, a lighting manufacturer, was founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn in the Netherlands. Initially working for Philips in Eindhoven, she later opened a store in Amsterdam to create sophisticated, elegant and futuristic lighting designs made of glass or metal.
In the 1960s, Raak teamed up with the artist and glassmaker Willem van Oyen, creating unusual lighting fixtures that resembled stained glass windows with abstract patterns. The company also collaborated with major international designers and architects such as Evert Jelle Jelles, Sergio Asti, Bertrand Balas and Nanny Still. Raak's best-known designs are the cylindrical Fuga Lamp and the hugely successful Globe 2000 lighting range.
In 1974, Lockhorn sold the company but remained director until 1977. He then helped to develop the "Space Age" style in lighting fixtures of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1999, the company joined the Centre for Light Architecture in Drachten.
