Paperolle – reliquary.

IN STOCKVery pretty paperolle – reliquary of XVIIth century with its period carved and gilded wooden frame. The paperolles are a decoration technique using narrow strips of paper gilded on the edge, to form loops, circles and other shuttles, which are glued by the edge on a support to constitute a subject in three dimensions.
The paperolles are made in the convents for the meticulous making of small paintings-reliquaries.
Reliquaries are intended to preserve the earthly remains of holy personages who have been sanctified.
The scene located in the center of the paperolle represents the child Jesus trampling on the serpent. Two angels carry his cross in the presence of the Virgin.
