Jules PETILLON (1845/1899) is a French painter renowned for his precision and his talent for representing urban and seascapes. Born in 1845, he grew up in an artistic environment and quickly discovered a passion for painting. A pupil of the famous painter Luigi Loir, he benefited from solid training and quickly developed his own artistic style.

Jules Petillon's mastery in the representation of urban landscapes is remarkable. He has dedicated much of his career to capturing the beauty and essence of Paris. His canvases accurately depict the bustling streets, stately buildings and unique atmosphere of city life at that time. In addition to Paris, Normandy is a major source of inspiration for him. He frequently visited places such as Tréport or the Cotentin to capture the magic of coastal landscapes. His seascapes reflect both the tranquility and power of the waves, as well as the beauty of boats and maritime activities. The banks of the Loire are another recurring subject in Petillon's work. Attracted by the calm of the river and the picturesque landscapes that surround it, he skilfully captures the diversity of scenes along the banks. His paintings reflect the serenity of river landscapes and the life that takes place there. In 1875, he exhibited at the Salon, thereby gaining recognition and consolidating his reputation as a talented artist. It attracts the attention of critics and collectors. His works are appreciated for their technique and their ability to capture reality in a detailed and poetic way.

Unfortunately, Jules Petillon's artistic career was prematurely interrupted in 1899. Despite this, his artistic legacy lives on, and his paintings continue to inspire and amaze art lovers. He leaves behind a legacy of outstanding works that testify to his talent and his passion.
