Oil on canvas depicting a royal princess. This is the presumed portrait of Françoise-Marie de Bourbon, daughter of King Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan, famous mistress of the king.

The hairstyle is typical of fashion under Louis XIV in this period of XVIIth century. The princess wears on her shoulders an ermine cloak symbolizing her membership in the royal family, as well as her purple-red cloak.

The painting is framed in its original Louis XIV period frame in carved and gilded oak.

The painting bears on its frame on the back an inventory number 6753 corresponding to a castle collection.

Françoise-Marie de Bourbon, known as the Second Mademoiselle de Blois, was born on May 4, 1677 at the Château de Maintenon and died on February 1, 1749 in Saint-Cloud. She is the legitimized daughter that Louis XIV secretly had with the Marquise de Montespan. With her brother, the Count of Toulouse, she is the fruit of the king's reconciliation with the Marquise de Montespan after their separation in 1675. The king married her with his nephew Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Chartres, future Regent, and attributed to her a considerable endowment of two million pounds. The couple had eight children. In 1701 she became the second lady of the Court, in 1715 she was the first lady of the kingdom.
