Bronze proof with brown patina, depicting a hunting dog, of the pointer breed named “Marly”, by the sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879).
The “Braque Dog (Marly)” was exhibited at the 1867 Salon by PJMêne.
The dog appears to be standing still, its front paw raised, it is frozen, looking towards the horizon on the lookout for prey, its senses are alert.
Bronze signed “PJMÊNE” in hollow, on the naturalist terrace, decorated with vegetation.
Old edition sculpture, second part of the period XIXth century.
Very good state of preservation and patina.

Pierre-Jules Mêne is a French sculptor, born March 25, 1810 in Paris, city where he died May 20, 1879.
He is considered one of the main representatives of animal sculpture in the XIXth century.
Pierre-Jules Mêne, produced numerous animal sculptures, particularly popular during the Second Empire, like Antoine – Louis Barye, Auguste Caïn, Pierre Louis Rouillard and later, François Pompon.
PJ Mêne specialized in small bronzes, and did not produce work for public statuary.
His animal subjects have enjoyed great popular success.
