Important bronze group with double patina, brown and gold, representing two woodcocks, accompanied by a frog, resting under the paw of one of them, by the sculptor Léon Bureau (1866-1906).
Woodcocks are depicted with finely chiseled plumage, a massive body, a long beak and their wings spread.
Jules Moigniez pays particular attention to anatomical details, his works are considered remarkably detailed, with very thorough chiselling, completed by an elegance in the attitudes.
Bronze group signed “L.Bureau” on the side of the naturalist terrace, richly chiseled and decorated with plants.
Old edition sculpture, second part of the period XIXth century.
Perfect state of conservation.

Léon Bureau (1866-1906)
Léon Bureau is a French animal sculptor, born in Limoges on September 17, 1906.
A specialist in exotic animals, he began his apprenticeship with the sculptor Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900), and appeared for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1884.
He will mainly exhibit plaster casts there, a certain number of which will be cast in bronze.
He died on May 26, 1906, in his hometown, Limoges.
