Luca Madrassi (1848-1919)
Luca Madrassi was a French sculptor of Italian origin (1848-1919).
He began his artistic studies in Rome before studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a pupil of Pierre-Jules Cavelier.
He then joined the studio of Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse.
Between 1876 and 1880, Madrassi was Gustave Doré's practitioner; this collaboration may explain the analogies between the works of Carrier-Belleuse and Doré.
Luca Madrassi exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris from 1879.
For his often allegorical subjects he received honorable mentions on several occasions (1881, 1882, 1883 and 1885) as well as a third class medal in 1896.
He obtained French nationality and became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1890.
He also exhibited at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1896.
