A muscular man, standing figure, with the attributes of an anvil and a hammer, he is a blacksmith.
Bronze titled “WORK” in a cartouche on the front of the sculpture.
Signature of the sculptor, “MARIOTON” in relief on the naturalistic terrace.
Old edition sculpture, second part of the period XIX th century.
Very good state of preservation and patina.

Eugene Marioton (1857-1933)
Born in Paris on April 7, 1857, Eugène Marioton was a prolific sculptor and medal engraver, the brother of Claudius Marioton and the painter Jean Alfred Marioton.
E . Marioton has enjoyed a great reputation for fifty years.
He produced many allegorical subjects , ancient and genre scenes , portraits , which he exhibited at the Salon from 1882 .
There are many bronzes there: busts, medallions, statues and groups.
His works follow the traditions of neoclassicism.
He regularly participates in the Society of French Artists and is a member of the jury for the sculpture section of the Salon in 1905.
Before his death in 1933, Marioton received several awards for his work, including a prize from the Société des Beaux-Arts and a grant for young artists from the General Council of the Seine in 1884.
