Louis Etienne Timmermans, born in 1846 in Brussels, died in 1910 in Paris. A painter of landscapes, seascapes, and marine scenes, he was also a watercolorist. He studied at the Brussels Academy and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, receiving an honorable mention in 1904. Timmermans worked primarily in France, painting seascapes, harbor views, and scenes of the Seine in Paris. He was particularly sensitive to the atmosphere of small fishing ports, which he painted with meticulous realism. From a stay in Holland, he brought back landscapes in which he lyrically captured the interplay of light and water.
