Exceptional Scandinavian sideboard by Danish designer Kurt Østervig edited by Brande Møbelfabrik.
Kurt Østervig is probably one of the most recognized Scandinavian designers.
His work is focused on wood; the very essence of wood represents for him the fully furnished heart.
During the 1950s and 1960s, he designed remarkable pieces, in particular sideboards, some of which were exhibited in major museums such as the MoMA in New York.
This sideboard with a support waist is worked in teak, so it has a light patina.
It consists of 4 sliding doors and 3 drawers.
You can easily see the symmetry of the wood grain on these doors.
This is the result of exceptional rosewood veneer cutting work.
The 2 doors on the left reveal a series of 6 drawers lined with green felt on the far left and a shelf with a mirror just next to it. These two parts are separated by a partition.
The 2 doors on the right reveal a large open compartment with 2 shelves.
Below is therefore 1 large central drawer and 2 smaller ones on the sides.
The grain of the wood is magnificent, especially on the top and the ribs where the knots and veins of the rosewood mingle to form magnificent patterns.
The piece of furniture has a beautiful finish on the frame or the handles.
In addition, the color contrast is subtle, the lines are minimalist and the proportions are elegant.
It is undoubtedly an exceptional piece of work.
As is often the case, the Danish furniture control sticker has come off.
The background has been changed so the factory stamp is no longer visible.
