Very beautiful oil on canvas representing Spring, probably an element of woodwork, the frame requires some restorations.
Georges Picard was born on December 23, 1857 in Remiremond in the Vosges.
He was a pupil of Gérome at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He is a painter of character compositions, wall compositions, figures, nudes and also an illustrator. He exhibited regularly at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and was its treasurer for a long time.
Along with painting, he illustrated Sigurd and the Tales of Perrault. He benefited from important and prestigious commissions, among others for the Casino de Monte-Carle, the French Embassy in Vienna, the Foyer du Théatre de Lille, the Petit Palais in Paris, and especially for the Hôtel de Ville in Paris. , where from 1892 to 1898 he decorated the Galerie Lobau, which connects the two entrance halls. There he realized his project of allegory of the march of man towards progress. In his easel paintings he often depicted childish scenes and nudes.
