Painter and draftsman, he became a student at the School of Fine Arts in Paris under the direction of the marine painter Jules Noël and the painter Eugène Lacoste. He exhibited at the Salon from 1865 until 1890. Laborne was a refined painter of urban views and landscapes. Paris, the Loire Valley, the south of Spain were often treated by his brushes. He also executed several views of the Normandy coast: Le Tréport, Fécamp, Honfleur, and Villers sur Mer.
