Signature of the sculptor "C. Masson", in hollow, on the naturalist terrace, richly chiseled, decorated with foliage.

Old edition sculpture, second part of the period XIX th century.

Clovis-Edmond Masson (1838-1913)

 A student of Barye, Rouillard and Santiago, Clovis – Edmond Masson regularly exhibited his animal sculptures at the Salon from 1867 to 1909.

From 1867, with his plasterwork “Hunting of Indian Tigers”, ispecializes in animal representation . His work is playful and inventive with a certain license from his mentor, Antoine-Louis Barye.
Over the years, at least fifty-two of his works have been exhibited at the Salon by Clovis – Edmond Masson.
His son Jules-Edmond Masson also became a sculptor and studied with his father.

The city of Nimes has several sculptures by the artist in its Museum.
