VOLLON Alexis Born May 12, 1865 in Paris. Died in 1945. XIX°- XX° centuries. French. Genre painter, figures, landscapes, engraver. He was a pupil of Antoine Vollon, his father. He exhibited in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1885, of which he was an associate member out of competition, member of the Committee and of the Jury. He received an honorable mention in 1885, a third class medal in 1888, a second class medal in 1889, a silver medal in 1900 at the Universal Exhibition. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1900. This artist would have deserved a destiny more marked by significant successes, if not a glorious destiny. He appeared in the time of the great Impressionists, whom he does not equal, and he often treated subjects which were familiar to them. His landscapes, especially those of the Seine in Paris: The Seine at the Pont des Saints-Pères, The Seine at the Pont Alexandre III are translations of atmosphere of indisputable quality. He also painted, with less brilliance, figures, including: Maternal tenderness. Also an engraver, he favored the technique of etching.
