€4.500,00

Hauteur : 71 cm

SCULPTURE – DAVID DEFEATING GOLIATH , LOUIS GOSSIN (1846–1928) – BRONZE

Artist: Louis Gossin (1846-1928)
Bronze cast with a brown patina, depicting « David » standing , sheathing his sword , with one foot on the head of « Goliath », whom he has just beheaded , by the famous French sculptor Louis GOSSIN (1846–1928) .
With the war of 1870 and the country’s defeat , French society was overcome by a sense of humiliation and a desire for revenge.
This state of mind led people to see in this « David » the promise of a France that would one day triumph .
The sculptor sought this blend of masterful composition and dynamic modeling in the great works of the Florentine Renaissance : hence the grand and beautiful curves of the arm extended by the movement of the sword , the bent leg, and the grace of David’s movement , which invites the viewer to walk around the various planes that gradually modulate the space .
The sculptor’s signature , « L.Gossin » is incised on the oval , richly chiseled pedestal .
Bronze resting on a rotating base made of red Belgian marble .
Antique sculpture , dating from the second half of the 19th century .
In perfect condition with well-preserved patina .

Height : 71 cm
