The sculptor , renowned for his ability to capture the nuances of the human form , succeeds here in conveying the dignity of the blacksmith , embodying both his physical power and his humanity .
The blacksmith is depicted with his tools , an anvil and a hammer .
The bronze is titled « THE WORK » in a cartouche , on the front of the sculpture .
The sculptor’s signature , « MARIOTON » , is engraved on the naturalistic base .
An early edition sculpture from the second half of the 19th century .

Eugène Marioton (1857-1933)
Né à Paris le 7 avril 1857 , Eugène Marioton est un sculpteur et graveur en médaille prolifique , il est le frère de Claudius Marioton et du peintre Jean Alfred Marioton .
E . Marioton jouit d’une grande réputation durant une cinquantaine d’ années .
Il produit de nombreux sujets allégoriques , des scènes antiques et de genre , des portraits , qu’il expose au Salon à partir de 1882 .
On y rencontre de nombreux bronzes : bustes , médaillons , statues et groupes .
Ses œuvres suivent les traditions du néoclassicisme .
Il participe régulièrement à la Société des Artistes Français et fait partie du jury de la section sculpture du Salon en 1905 .
Avant sa mort en 1933 , Marioton reçoit plusieurs récompenses pour son travail , dont un prix de la Société des Beaux-Arts et une bourse jeunes artistes du Conseil Général de la Seine en 1884 .
Eugene Marioton (1857-1933)
Born in Paris on April 7 , 1857 , Eugene Marioton was a prolific sculptor and medal engraver , he was the brother of Claudius Marioton and the painter Jean Alfred Marioton .
E . Marioton has enjoyed a great reputation for fifty years .
He produced many allegorical subjects , ancient and genre scenes , portraits , which he exhibited at the Salon from 1882 .
There are many bronzes there: busts, medallions, statues and groups .
His works follow the traditions of neoclassicism .
He regularly participates in the Society of French Artists and is a member of the jury for the sculpture section of the Salon in 1905 .
Before his death in 1933 , E.Marioton received several awards for his work, including a prize from the Society of Fine Arts and a grant for young artists from the General Council of the Seine in 1884 .
In perfect condition, both in terms of preservation and patina.
