SCULPTURE – MARLY , LE CHIEN BRAQUE PAR PIERRE – JULES MÊNE (1810-1879) – BRONZE

Épreuve en bronze à patine brune , figurant un chien de chasse , de race braque nommé « Marly » , par le célèbre sculpteur animalier , Pierre – Jules Mêne (1810-1879) .
Le « Chien Braque Marly » , est exposé pour la première fois , au Salon de 1867.
Le chien figure à l’arrêt , la patte avant levée , il est figé , regardant vers l’horizon à l’affut d’une proie .
Ses sens sont en éveils , grâce a son odorat , il détecte sa proie sans même la voir .
Sculpture signée « P.J.MÊNE » en creux , sur la terrasse naturaliste ornée de végétations .
Bronze ancien , datant de la seconde partie du XIXème siècle .
Très bon état de conservation et de patine .
Dans l’oeuvre de Pierre – Jules Mêne , le chien est l’animal aimé et choyé, étudié et représenté plus que tous les autres .
Si la chasse est l’axe de son oeuvre , le chien en est l’élément constitutif par excellence .
Dans la sculpture animalière , P.J Mêne est l’artiste qui nous a laissé le plus de modèles de canidés , tous parfaitement traités d’une manière réaliste , et représentés avec une vérité artistique et une rigueur anatomique qui ne faibliront pas au cours des années .

MARLY , THE POINTING DOG BY PIERRE-JULES MÊNE (1810–1879)

Bronze sculpture with a brown patina , depicting a hunting dog of the Braque breed named « Marly » , by the famous animal sculptor , Pierre – Jules Mêne (1810–1879).
The « Marly Braque », was exhibited for the first time, at the 1867 Salon .
The dog is depicted in a pointing stance , with its front paw raised , it is frozen in place , gazing toward the horizon on the lookout for prey .
Its senses are on high alert , thanks to its sense of smell , it detects its prey without even seeing it .
Sculpture signed « P.J.MÊNE » in intaglio , on the naturalistic base adorned with vegetation .
Antique bronze , dating from the second half of the 19th century .
Very good condition and patina .
In the work of Pierre-Jules Mêne , the dog is the beloved and cherished animal , studied and depicted more than any other .
While hunting is the central theme of his work , the dog is its defining element par excellence .
In animal sculpture , P.J. Mêne is the artist who has left us the greatest number of canine works , all perfectly rendered in a realistic style and depicted with an artistic authenticity and anatomical precision that will stand the test of time .
