The last book that Utamaro illustrated

• 2 volumes, (22.3 x 16 cm) Bound in bag (fukurotoji). Blue covers, embossed, with diamond patterns, with title label, 27 & 22 ff. 10 & 9 double-page clours prints signed Kitagawa-sha Murasaki-ya Utamaro, on a text by Jippensha Ikku. 

The last book illustrated by Utamaro, who died two years later, the work is particularly known in France through the book by Edmond de Goncourt, Outamaro, the painter of green houses. According to a common practice in Japanese engraving, Utamaro delegated part of the drawings to 3 of his disciples: Kikumaro, Hidemaro and Takemaro. Scenes from the life of the courtesans' quarters, their rituals and ceremonies throughout the year; The text by Jippensha Ikku vividly describes the great moments that mark the lives of courtesans and that of their clients.
